Fashion Wars: Lindsay Anne Jones
How did your dream of being a designer begin?
My dream of becoming a fashion designer consciously began when I was fifteen. I majored in Fine Arts in High School. In my junior year, every art student was required to choose an elective, and I choose Fashion Illustration and Design. I really loved designing clothing and was always inspired by everything. I knew that this was something that I could happily do every day of my life. I decided then that I wanted to pursue apparel design as a career and began to research my options. In order to audition to apply for the Fashion Institute of Technology, I needed to learn to sew. I enrolled in a small sewing class in Brooklyn for a year, which enabled me to construct garments for my F.I.T audition. I was accepted into F.I.T and continued my education there.
Subconsciously, I’ve always wanted to be a fashion designer without realizing it. As a child, when asked what I wanted to be when I grew up I would always say that I wanted to teach the second grade. However, when I was at home playing dolls with my sisters, I always pretended that I owned my own fashion empire. That is my dream today. To design and own a line of apparel for women, men, and children, that is enhanced by a line of accessories and cosmetics.
